Member's Exhibit at the Singapore Philatelic Museum
To commemorate the centenary of the first flight in Singapore on 16
Mar 2011, Singapore Philatelic Museum (SPM) is showcasing Mr Lim Sa
Bee's exhibit "Malayan Airmails 1911-1942"
from 16 Mar 2011 for three months until June 2011. More
information is available from SPM's website which can be reached by
going to the Links.
Sa Bee's collection has just won a FIP Large Gold plus Special
Prize at INDIPEX 2011 World Philatelic Exhibition from 12 to 18 Feb
2011 at New Delphi. This is the first time that a "Malayan Airmails"
exhibit has been awarded a Large Gold at FIP exhibition, although it
had also won a Large Gold medal at FIAP show previously.
Collectors and members should make it a point to visit SPM to see
this outstanding exhibit which is loaded with many rare and "one of
the kind" items, such as the rare postcard showing the first
demonstration flight by Joseph Christiaens in Singapore, first
airmail from Singapore by Ross Smith, the Bandeong Flight, etc.
Flight covers were the evidence of the pioneering efforts by
daredevil aviators in the early part of the last century when they
flew over hostile territories and in adverse weather conditions, in
their relatively flimsy planes.
